The course aims, through online learning and completion self-tests, to help you develop and improve your knowledge of diabetic eye screening. By the end of the course the student will be able to;

  • Understand the basic anatomy of the eye and what happens to the eye in diabetes
  • Recognise the importance of screening for diabetic retinopathy
  • Distinguish the features of diabetic retinopathy and progression of the condition
  • Define the key criteria in grading for diabetic retinopathy
  • Recognise the technologies and treatments used in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy

This training is appropriate for any healthcare professionals such as diabetes physicians or nursing staff who wish to improve their understanding of diabetic retinopathy screening. This course is free of charge to healthcare professionals.

Entry Requirements

Healthcare professionals must provide proof of employment within the healthcare sector.

There are no specific entry requirements however we advise that all students are:

  • Able to use computer systems and must have (ideally broadband) access to the Internet (www) to complete their distance learning
  • Have sufficient competence in English to understand the course
