An Introduction to Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) Grading

This course has been designed to introduce students to grading in diabetic retinopathy (DR), based around national standards. It consists of pre-course online learning, and two days of face to face training. It explores DR in depth, and provides students with an extensive understanding of how this condition is classified.
The teaching is provided by Gloucestershire Research & Education Group and participants will receive an in-house certificate from the Gloucestershire Research & Education Group, on successful completion.

The topics covered in this training include:
- Eye anatomy, visual acuity and visual pathway
- Detection and identification of DR
- How DR develops over time
- The Grading Pathway
- Features of DR
Course content includes:
- Pre-course online learning (4 courses)
- Presentations, case-based discussions and activities to build Grader Knowledge
- Interactive exercises to develop performance in image analysis techniques, structured decision-making and common challenges
- Informal quizzes and tests to assess your knowledge
Assessment:
- Students will be assessed throughout the duration of the course.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course but students should be employed in a clinical context.
It is suitable for anyone who would like to gain and improve their knowledge of grading for diabetic retinopathy.

This course requires students to attend face to face training at a site based in Gloucestershire for 2 days, 09:30 – 16:00, on selected dates. On the first day, students must arrive by 09:00 for registration and the course programme completes at 16:00 on the second day.
Attendees should consider their return journey arrangements as it is likely the training will run until completion on the second day and therefore early exits may mean learning outcomes are not achieved.

To be certificated, students must complete both the online and face to face sections of the course. CPD points may be available to those applicable, please inform the course team in your application or at your earliest convenience to found out more information.
