Age-Related Macular Degeneration and OCT

This course has been designed for individuals who would like to develop and improve their knowledge of the different types of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and the conversion between AMD types. Whilst anyone can register for this course, its primary focus is to support Optometrists in their clinical practice and CPD, providing clinical pearls to inform the diagnosis, treatment, and management of different types of AMD.
The teaching is provided by Gloucestershire Research & Education Group and participants will receive an in-house certificate from the Gloucestershire Research & Education Group, on successful completion.

By the end of the course the student will be able to:
- Provide an effective explanation to patients presenting with AMD about their condition, its management and any referral or treatment that may be required.
- Understand the ability of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to discriminate between different stages of AMD and to be able to identify clinically significant lesions requiring referral
- Understand common risk factors of AMD
- Distinguish between wet and dry AMD using OCT and make appropriate recommendations for management in practice or referral
