OCT Interpretation in Paediatric & Inherited Conditions

This course has been designed for individuals who are employed in a clinical context and undertake, or have the opportunity to undertake, OCT interpretation. This module focuses on Paediatric and Inherited conditions, and how OCT scans, along with patient history and other forms of imaging, can help clinicians reach accurate diagnoses. It explores the challenges of capturing OCT scans in young patients, and provides students with the knowledge required to recognise features of common inherited retinal disorders, to inform their clinical practice.
The teaching is provided by Gloucestershire Research & Education Group and participants will receive an in-house certificate from the Gloucestershire Research & Education Group, on successful completion.

By the end of the course the student will be able to:
- Assess the indications for performing OCT scans in infants and children and identify the challenges in capturing OCT scans in these patients including:
- Age specific adjustments
- Handheld SD-OCT
- Environment / Communication
- Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the features of common inherited retinal disorders detected from OCT scans in the specific conditions
- Identify and understand the normal variations in infants and young children so they can interpret OCT scans in specific conditions

There are no specific entry requirements for this course but students should be employed in a clinical context and have the opportunity to undertake OCT Interpretation.

Students have 8 weeks to complete this course. It is delivered on our online learning system, and to be certificated, students must successfully pass an end of module one hour exam, which can be accessed between weeks 5-8 of the course.
There are no specific start dates, students can register anytime.
